A Word from our Creation Care Ministry
Which of the following makes your Episcopalian Earth-keeping heart and soul happy? #1. Conserving water by taking a ‘Navy Shower’: Get wet, turn off the water, lather up, then turn it back on for a fresh rinse. #2. Engaging St. Alban’s Online Team on BrightAction, a sustainability-focused app designed to help users reduce their personal carbon footprint through gamified, actionable, and collaborative daily actions. #3. Expressing love for God by partnering with others to grow our capacity and witness to care for creation at church, home, and community.
Love a challenge? Explore all three of these between now and Earth Day, April 22nd! However, you choose to fulfill God’s call in Genesis 2:6 for us to care for creation and tend to “this fragile earth, our island home,” as we pray the Book of Common Prayer’s Eucharistic Prayer C, please know the Green Team celebrates all of your small and large moments of devotion.
Hi, I’m Emily Danahey, the onboarding leader of St. Alban’s new creation care team. In the 10 months of Mike McDonald’s founding leadership, members have been empowering the growth of our congregation to connect with God’s creation and practice environmental stewardship through prayer, formation, service, and sustainable practices. Our church has participated in an energy audit, implemented resource- and waste-reduction practices, begun nature-based care landscaping efforts, identified educational opportunities, and raised interest in exploring the intersection of race and environmental justice. Wow! Building on this momentous start, the vision for the Green Team is to generate project groups that partner with other ministry areas to implement the five creation care goals of the NC Diocese. Intrigued? Want to join us? Happy to learn more? Join us on Thursday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Reflection Room. All are welcome to explore, join, or lead a creation care group or project. Please connect with me if interested.
