NEWCOMERS

Thank you for your interest in St. Alban’s. We love having visitors and newcomers join us for worship. We would be delighted to get to know you better and become your spiritual home.

 

St. Alban’s is located at 301 Caldwell Lane in the town of Davidson. When you arrive, you can either park on the street or in the big lot behind our building. Wheelchair accessible parking is available in the circle drive to the west of the building or in the parking lot.

 

If you park in the back lot, you can follow the sidewalk to the rear entrance. Downstairs, you will find the choir room, classrooms for our youth and children’s ministries, as well as our Weekday Preschool. An elevator is available to take you to the upper floor if stairs are difficult. Upstairs, you will find the staff and clergy offices, the narthex (main lobby), the Reflection meeting room/Sunday nursery, and the nave (sanctuary).

 

On Sundays, we hold services of Holy Eucharist at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Our 8:00 a.m. service is simple, with no music, and usually lasts 45 - 50 minutes. Our 10:30 a.m. service is our larger attendance service, with hymns and musical anthems. It usually lasts about an hour and ten minutes.

 

If you are coming for the 10:30 a.m. service, look for a friendly Greeter to answer any questions or point you in the right direction. They can help you make a nametag and show you where to find our welcome desk in the narthex near the doors to the nave. The welcome desk has our newcomer forms. Please help us by completing the newcomer form so that we can be in touch and send mail/email to you appropriately.

 

Children of all ages are always welcome in worship. Worship bags are available just outside the nave doors. The sounds of children in church are the sounds of a living, thriving church! Younger children are welcome to use our “prayground” with parental supervision. The prayground is located on the right side of the nave, up front. Sitting close to the front can help little ones be more engaged in the service. Sometimes kids (and adults!) need a little break, so feel free to visit the narthex or Reflection Room for more wiggle space if that would be helpful.

 

If desired, our nursery (for ages 5 and under) is open from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. It is located downstairs in the Sunday School area. The nursery is staffed by a mix of volunteers and paid attendants, often Davidson College students.

Children of all ages are invited to Children’s Chapel. Following the Gospel, children will process out for age-appropriate music, prayers, and a brief lesson during the Sermon. They will return during the Passing of the Peace so families can be together for Communion.

Sunday School for children and youth generally takes place Sunday mornings between Labor Day and Memorial Day from 9:45 - 10:15 a.m. They gather to learn before church, allowing them to experience the 10:30 a.m. service with their families. Age 4 – 1st grade and 2nd – 4th Grade will meet in the Preschool area. Sunday School for Middle and High School Youth (6th-12th grades) is typically held in the youth room beside the choir room downstairs. 5th graders have a choice of children or youth class.
