HOMELESS JESUS

Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.

- Matthew 8:20

Homeless Jesus

In 2014, a Homeless Jesus statue was installed on the grounds of St. Alban’s, the first of its kind to be placed in the United States. The statue depicts Jesus asleep on a bench, identifiable only by the wounds in his feet. Homeless Jesus was sculpted by artist Timothy P. Schmalz of Ontario, Canada. The sculpture reminds us not only that Jesus was poor and itinerant, but also that throughout his ministry, he showed special concern for anyone who was vulnerable. At the time of installation, our church received an abundance of media coverage, some of which you can read below.

Since 2014, the Outreach Team of St. Alban’s has been involved in the placement of additional Homeless Jesus sculptures all over the world.
