Many are the plans in a person’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Proverbs 19:21
Sharing a personal journal entry that I often reread as a constant reminder:
Plans are interesting things.
They are certainly important. You wouldn’t trust an architect who told you, “No, I don’t have a plan for how I am going to build your house but I’ll figure it out as I go along.” That would be horrible!
You wouldn’t trust a doctor who didn’t have a plan for surgery. Even taking it down a level, most of us wouldn’t trust an Uber driver who didn’t have a plan for getting us to the airport on time.
Plans are necessary, but plans can only take us so far.
A plan says, here’s what I’m going to do and how I’m going to do it. If we’re really ambitious, we’ll make a Plan B or a Plan C just in case things go wrong. I encourage you to keep making plans. Keep dreaming big dreams. And when you do not know what steps to take pray to God for direction. Keep taking steps of faith. Rest assured that the Lord’s plan wins in the end.
You see plans are preparation. They fit onto notecards and into notebooks. They’re fun to talk about and brainstorm. But plans only take us to the starting line. They don’t get us moving. Purpose does that. And God’s purpose for us is far greater than anything we can imagine.
Purpose works differently from plans. Purpose drives us forward regardless of what goes right or wrong. Purpose says, here’s the direction I’m going in no matter what speed bumps try to stop me, no matter what detours try to derail us, from twist to twist. It passes through God’s hands. Know God knows where He’s taking you. He’s giving you these detours for a reason. God will allow us and keep us going and heading in the best direction. Seek God, we must believe the value in seeking God and His mind on all things. It may mean forgiving our yesterday, to be promoted to the next level. Creating greater opportunity for promotion so we can arrive at our point of destiny.
Sometimes it’s hard to surrender our lives and our plans to God. We make the mistake of thinking our plans are better than God’s. When we stubbornly hold on to our plan, we try to get God to follow our idea of how things should work. Beloved, we have to release all control to God. We have to invite God into our decision-making, asking Him to inspire our every move, and our every thought. Look for the key proofs. He will provide validation and confirmation. He molds the circumstances in your life. “God was with Joseph.”
On our journey and winding paths to our purpose, we must stay close to God. God’s presence will be the defining factor in getting us to our destiny. When we do not relentlessly hold on to our purpose, and we surrender to the direction God wants to take us, His plans will prevail. Don’t hold on too tightly to your plan. Follow Him with all your heart. Follow His direction, the best you can. He will use all of this for His glory and our good. God prepared ahead of time for us to do good works. But we must live it out. Make plans and rest in the safety that God’s purpose will prevail.
Praying for all things aligned with God’s will, and to be accomplished with God’s help!
Peace and Blessings,
Valerie+
