Ash Wednesday is nearly here, and now is the time for each of us to think about how we want to spend our Lenten season. We will have approximately six weeks to engage with God in a deeper way as we prepare ourselves to observe the most sacred days of the year, Good Friday and the Feast of the Resurrection.
Here at St. Alban’s, we have planned many wonderful opportunities as part of our “Apostle-ing Outside the Lines” theme for Lent 2025. Looking to Mary Magdalene and some of the other faithful women who knew Jesus or became part of the early church, we will explore what it means to be an apostle today. You can read more about the full line-up of Lenten offerings on the homepage of our website. Personally, I am especially looking forward to Soup & Spirit on Wednesday nights and walking the Stations of the Cross on Fridays. I hope to see you there!
In addition to all of the “Apostle-ing Outside the Lines” programming here at St. Alban’s, I want to share some other resources for Lent from across the Episcopal Church that you may find useful for prayer, study, and devotion during the upcoming season—see below. Please don’t feel like you have to try all of them! But perhaps one will speak to you.
The most important thing to me is that you find some way to tend to your soul this Lent. Our world feels so volatile and fragile these days. You (and God) know best what it is your soul needs. I pray that, no matter how you choose to observe Lent this year, your journey will allow you to arrive at Easter with a deeper sense of hope in God’s goodness and mercy, and a renewed commitment to your calling as an apostle, one who has been sent to share the good news of Jesus’s love for all.
Yours in Christ,
Carmen

Lent 2025: 40 Days of Welcome and Gratitude
Each Lent, UTO offers a variety of resources for congregations, families, children, and individuals. This year, UTO is proud to partner with Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) to present: 40 Days of Welcome and Gratitude: a call to giving thanks for the ways we are welcomed in the world and the ways that people offer welcome to us and to our communities. UTO and EMM are excited to partner together this Lent to provide a multi-faceted program to help people of all ages consider ways we experience and provide welcome that we are grateful for.
