It’s that time again! Back to School! How is it here already? Time seems to go by so quickly and it makes me want to savor the moments even more. I am reminded to not take things too seriously, to laugh, and to enjoy and be present in every opportunity. These blessings come about when we least expect them. For me, as a Children and Youth Director, it apparently happens while going down an oversized slip and slide with the youth and having fun with water balloons like we did last Sunday. Yes, I did that!
It is with great pride that I see our Youth Group, 6th-12th grade, really coming together. They are encouraged to bring friends, and I want to encourage any youth in our parish that has not checked it out to please join us! We go fun places like Putt Putt, paintball, and Urban Air to name a few. We have at least one service project a month that provides them with an opportunity to give back like painting the shed behind the church, spreading mulch on the prayer trail, and assembling Thanksgiving dinner boxes for those in need. We are always looking for new service ideas too. Then, after bringing back the ski trip last January, we are also working towards a beach retreat this Fall, and hopefully a mission trip in the future. Please join us on Sunday evenings to check it out!
The adorable children bring me just as many moments to treasure. VBS this summer was absolutely amazing with almost 50 kids. I watched as their eyes lit up at songs we would sing or activities they were doing. Each of them touches my heart in different ways and many of them I have really gotten to know from Sunday School and VBS over the past few years. The random hugs I get, funny facial expressions they give me, and just their laughter makes me proud to do this job.
So, now it is time for us to come back! Sunday School will kick off again on Sunday, September 8th at 10:15am and we will once again welcome Children and Youth back downstairs. Please join us that Sunday not only for Sunday School, but also after the service when the youth host an ice cream bar to welcome all the kids back. It will bring me great joy to see all of them again and welcome new faces too!
