Another academic year has begun at the college. It has been such a joy to reconnect with returning students and start getting to know some first-year students. I am ever grateful for the generous support that Saint Albans provides Episcopal Student Fellowship (ESF). I have the great privilege of witnessing the impact of this support.
As stated in our publicity materials: Episcopal Student Fellowship is an Episcopal student group that seeks to become Beloved Community through worship, communal meals, bible study, retreats, and pilgrimages. Student members are encouraged to explore their faith through prayer, service, and spiritual inquiry. We are welcoming and affirming of all, regardless of religious affiliation, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Here are a few wonderful examples of how ESF has been impacting the lives of some of the Davidson students:
Liam Barr, class of 2020, graduated from Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest this past May, was ordained to the transitional diaconate in June, and has since begun his work with Latino/Hispanic Ministries in the diocese and at The Church of the Holy Innocents in Henderson, NC.
Ben Haden Ray, class of 2022, has just started his first year at Yale Divinity School and is discerning a potential call to ordained ministry.
Clare Harbin, class of 2023, has just moved to London and is working as Church Operations Director at Saint Mary’s Anglican Church in Putney.
Vincent Scuazzo, class of 2024, has just moved to Washington D.C. to begin studying for a Master in National Security Policy. He has begun attending St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square and is already starting to get actively involved there.
Emma Bazemore, class of 2025, has begun her senior year at Davidson. She is considering attending medical school in the future, but is hoping to spend some time with the Peace Corps following graduation.
These are just four examples of the remarkable young adults who have been active in ESF during their time at Davidson. I can personally attest that ESF and Saint Alban’s have played a significant role in their faith journeys.
I am deeply grateful for the ongoing support of Saint Alban’s for this life-giving ministry. We kicked off a new year this past Sunday. I look forward to being able to share more stories of how Saint Alban’s is impacting the lives of these young adults by supporting ESF.
Yours in Christ,
Kevin
