Change

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Happy end of summer and beginning of a new year of school, Sunday School, Youth group, Confirmation, new programs, and all the fun Fall brings! It is at this time each year, we all must embrace change. Change of seasons, change of schools, change of grades, change of schedules, and many other changes that can be overwhelming. No matter our circumstance we all encounter change from time to time whether it is a job, a house, or even just navigating a new way of doing things. As children, we experience it a lot and as adults maybe not as much, but with much bigger things.

I am reminded of Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” If we believe and rely on God, we can find comfort in the change. It may just be that the old thing may not serve us any longer and embracing something new makes us feel reborn. Change forces us to grow or at the very least learn. Maybe the new way doesn’t work as well as the old way, but we might just learn something in the process. By making the bold move to try, we force ourselves out of our comfort zones and take a risk that might just change the way we think and do things. Often times it is better or maybe not, but we made ourselves vulnerable enough to try.

Change is happening at St. Alban’s and it is exciting! We are moving toward an earlier Sunday School time, we have a great new Choir Director, we have a new prayground, and so much more. There is an excitement in the air, and we are seeing increased attendance, and intergenerational worship flourish. Some have even been sparked to teach Sunday School. I am especially grateful for this change enabling our children to get to know even more parishioners of our church. Join me as we walk boldly into the unknown to grow and transform spreading God’s good news along the way.
