In the current context, when hope seems at times to be in short supply, I offer the following poem that recently came to me as I was reflecting on the seeming elusiveness of hope. As followers of Jesus’ Way of Love, we are a people of hope!
Hope is not intrusive!
She does not bang insistently on your door, demanding entry.
She politely lingers outside, waiting, gently beckoning.
She is easily overlooked,
her whispered invitation drowned out by The Noise.
The Noise is far more bold, elbowing its way through the door.
It loudly proclaims its presence.
It insists that you pay it heed, preying on your fears and doubts.
The Noise tries to bully you into submission,
attempting to drag you away from Hope towards Despair.
Yet, Hope quietly endures: lingering, waiting, beckoning, hoping.
Below the intrusive din of The Noise,
never giving up,
offering her clarifying perspective: Hope
She is always there.
Yours in Christ,
